Lagan Weir/Footbridge

Lagan Weir was constructed in the 1990s as an amenity barrage to maintain the River Lagan level, avoid low tide riverbed exposure and enable recreational water pursuits.Lagan Weir comprises four pier houses, five 20m long steel gates, a lookout building and access gallery extending under the river.

In 2015 a new 120m long feature footbridge was constructed at Lagan Weir, from Queens Quay to Donegall Quay, cantilevering beyond the piers, over the river and providing views of Herdman Channel and the weir cascade. Join your guides; Peter Gallagher (DSD), A. Lavery (AECOM) and T. Leaker to hear all about this beautiful new addition to the city.

PLACE has partnered with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) to bring you this project.
