The WWIE building is a £32m multi-disciplinary biomedical research facility with a focus on cures for eye disease, diabetes and the development of a global programme to aid understanding of the genetics of complex chronic diseases.
Designed by local firm Ostick & Williams and US-based architects Stantec, the Centre is the result of careful coordination between architectural, structural and services design. The building makes use of a range of measures that will lower carbon emissions and deliver a more sustainable building. Photovoltaic cells, rainwater harvesting, combined heat and power generation are being incorporated to ensure the building minimises its impact on the environment and achieves a target BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
This tour will also give you the chance to see operational laboratories and find out about the innovative and life-changing research undertaken within the building.
