The former Blood Transfusion Building

Work is well underway on the redevelopment of the former Blood Transfusion Building in Durham Street in Belfast to create 23 much needed new homes for people on the housing waiting list. The project by Clanmil Housing Group will see the Grade B2 listed building sympathetically restored, renovated and extended to provide apartments for active older people with new family housing to the rear. The landmark building was designed for the Belfast Corporation by Young & Mackenzie, who were responsible for the design of many of Belfast’s best known buildings including the Robinson & Cleaver department store in Donegall Square. It was completed in 1918 and was occupied by the Northern Ireland Tuberculosis Authority until the 1960s after which it was the base for the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service until 1995.
Clanmil have been working alongside Rolston Architects and the construction contract has been awarded to Coalisland based Geda Construction. Work is schedule to be completed in Spring 2018.
