This is a joint tour covering both the Translink Maintenance Facility and the Training Academy.Train Maintenance Facility
The Maintenance Facility officially opened in December 2012 to accommodate a new fleet of trains arriving into Belfast as the train cleaning and maintenance facilities based at York Road and Fortwilliam were operating close to full capacity.
It is used to undertake both heavy and light maintenance of the Class 4000 fleet and also cleaning of all trains which stable on the site overnight. Facilities include a train wash, fuelling areas, exterior stabling facilities, 4 post lifts, equipment drop tables and a workshop area.
The facility also boosts a range of interesting environmentalinitiatives to reduce energy usage, conserve water and support local biodiversity.
Translink Training Academy
The Translink Training Academy at Adelaide depot was formed in 2016. It resulted from the amalgamation of the Rail Operations Training Academy and the Bus Driving School.
The academy has a suite of simulation tools, including a state of the art train driving simulator for Translink’s current fleet as well as a train signalling simulator. In addition, there are buses representative of the Metro, Ulsterbus and Goldline fleet for training bus drivers.
The academy has a staff of 17 trainers and assessors and is responsible for the training and assessment of Translink’s operational staff as well as external contractors.
You will have an opportunity to be put through your paces in the train simulator to see if you’d make the cut!
